Church Farm Educational Services

My name is Ruth O’Neill and I have worked within education since 2001 as an English Teacher, ASC Specialist Teacher, ASC Lead Teacher, SENDCO and private tutor, both in the UK and overseas.

I taught English for 5 years in Holyhead and then taught overseas in both Cairo, Egypt and San Jose in Costa Rica. I taught from KS3 to KS5 including both GCSE, iGCSE, ‘A’ Level and the IB curriculum. Whilst in Cairo, I set up my own business as a tutor and delivered tuition for adults for Business English, EAL sessions for an Engineering company and a variety of 1:1 English tuition for Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5.

When I returned to the UK, I took on the role of Specialist Teacher in Charge of ASC Provision where I oversaw and ran an ASC Provision for Neurodivergent young people with EHCPs. I achieved my NASENCO Award in 2022 at York St John University, giving me fully qualified SENDCO status and I have worked in Special Needs since 2016. I have also been a Designated Teacher for Looked After Children. I also hold qualifications in SEND Law Levels 2 and 3 and am a Designated Safeguarding Lead.

I have a passion for teaching and studying English and really love working with young people on Shakespeare and poetry. I believe reading is hugely important to build understanding, vocabulary and literacy skills for young people.

Through over 100 hours of private SEND consultancy, I have supported families in applying for DLA, EHCPs and also through the appeals process.

Putting the young person at the very centre of each process, lesson and referral is my absolute priority in all aspects of my work.

I offer a variety of packages for tuition and SEND support including 1:1 online and face to face sessions, small group GCSE/iGCSE lessons, exam revision sessions, bespoke SEND support packages and a range of Google Classroom packages for those who prefer to work more independently.

The Special Needs Consultancy branch of Church Farm Educational Services offers guidance and advice for parents and carers including: referrals and support to complete paperwork, applications for Education and Health Care Plans, ADHD and ASC referrals, exam access arrangements and Disability Living Allowance applications.

Church Farm Educational Services now also offers SEND CPD for tutors and SEND information sessions for parents and families.
